Suzanne Breen

Suzanne Breen is the Northern Ireland editor for the Sunday Tribune newspaper.[1] She has also written for Village magazine about Northern Ireland.[2][3][4] [5]

She was contacted by the Real IRA when they claimed responsibility for the shootings at Masserene Barracks and admitted killing Denis Donaldson.[6][7][8][9]

In 2009 she was approached by the Police Service of Northern Ireland and asked to hand over details about sources, which she refused to do.[1][10] She has been supported by the National Union of Journalists and the Sunday Tribune.[11][12][13] She has stated that her life could be in danger if she reveals her sources.[14]

A judge has said that he was provisionally minded to grant the order to the PSNI.[15]

In June 2009 the High Court in Belfast ruled in her favour, saying she didn't have to hand over her notes.[16] She had been told by a third party that if she handed over her notes, her family and herself would be in danger from the Real IRA.[17]
